In programming, code refers to a set of instructions written in a language that a computer can understand, called a programming language (such as Python, Java, C, etc.).

These instructions tell the computer what to do, step by step, to accomplish a specific task.

Code is the foundation of everything digital today: applications, websites. Programmers write code to solve problems or create tools.

The first "coder" in history is actually a female coder, in the sense of someone who wrote a program intended to be executed by a machine, is generally recognized as Ada Lovelace. Born in 1815 in London, she was an English mathematician and the daughter of the famous poet Lord Byron.

Around 1842-1843, Ada collaborated with Charles Babbage on his "Analytical Engine," a mechanical invention that is considered a precursor to modern computers. In her notes, she described an algorithm to calculate Bernoulli numbers with the machine.

This algorithm is often cited as the world's first computer program, as it was designed to be executed by a machine, even though it was never built during her lifetime.

Before her, there were forms of "coding" (such as Jacquard's punched cards for looms in 1801), but they were not programs in the computational sense.
