Custom comic book

Have your story turned into a comic by a freelance artist

A comic tells a story better than a long text: your company's, a user guide, a gift for a loved one or your own album. On ComeUp, freelance comic artists draw pages in black and white or in color, with the price shown upfront.

FAQ Comic book

A simple black and white page is the cheapest option, based on orders from the last 90 days. A comic of a few pages usually costs about three times as much, and more ambitious projects, in color or with detailed action scenes, cost six to seven times as much. The price mostly depends on the number of pages and panels, and on color.

Usually about ten days for a comic of a few pages, based on recent orders. The work goes step by step: panel layout, pencils, then inks and color. Approve each step before moving on: redoing a panel at the pencil stage takes far less time than reworking a finished color page.

Start from a short story, with a beginning, a key moment and an ending, then split it into pages and panels, noting what each character says. Send the artist the speech bubble text, photos of the people to draw, the format you want (printed album, social media) and the style you like. The more precise the script, the fewer back-and-forths.

An AI generates comic-style images in seconds, but the characters often change faces from one panel to the next, and the speech bubbles and page layout still have to be done. An artist keeps the same characters from start to finish, paces the story through the panel layout and places the text so it reads well. For a comic given as a gift or telling your company's story, that consistency matters.

Yes. A script written with AI can be a starting point: reread it first to add your real memories, names and details, then send it to the artist. The artist will split it into panels and point out scenes that are too long or hard to draw. Say how many pages you're aiming for: the text has to fit in the bubbles.

Check whether the artist has already drawn complete pages, not just single illustrations: telling a story in panels is a skill of its own. The style should speak to you too (manga, comics, Franco-Belgian, black and white). On ComeUp, more than 40 reviews were left for comics in the last 12 months, and more than 95% are positive.
