FAQ Portraits

Prices vary little: a cartoon or typographic portrait, or a portrait of your pet, sits at the low end of the range, and a realistic portrait costs a little more. So it isn't free, but it remains an affordable gift idea: just check what's included, such as the number of people, the background or a print-ready file.

Pick a sharp photo taken in natural light, where the face is whole and not too small in the frame. Avoid filters, sunglasses and photos compressed by a messaging app: send the original file. For a pet, a photo taken at eye level gives more life to the eyes. For several people, ask whether the artist can bring them together from separate photos.

For a quick profile picture, sometimes. However, a filter gives every photo the same look, often distorts eyes or hands, and the person isn't always recognizable. An artist works on the features that create the likeness, chooses colors and background with you, and delivers a one-of-a-kind portrait, to keep or to give.

Ask for a high-resolution JPG or PNG file, at 300 dpi for the print size you want (A4, A3, canvas). For a profile picture, a square file is enough. State the use when you order: a portrait made for screens isn't always large enough for a poster. Each offer shows its delivery time, and some offers include an express option if the birthday is close.

Look at portraits the artist has already drawn, next to the original photos if possible: that's where you see the likeness. Then choose the style you like (realistic, cartoon, typographic), and check the profile, with client reviews and statistics. The Contact button lets you show your photo before you order, just to check that it works for the artist.
