Offers start low, and the final amount depends on the scope of the work. Based on orders from the last 90 days, customer service or after-sales support for an online store usually costs ten to twenty times the entry price, and the largest assignments several times more. Every offer shows its price before you order, and options can be added.

Based on recent orders, an assignment usually lasts about 8 days, during which the freelancer handles your customers' requests as set out in the offer. Each offer shows its duration: pick one that covers your busy periods, such as sales. For ongoing support, you can simply order again at the end of each period.

A chatbot answers simple questions instantly, at any hour: parcel tracking, opening hours, sizes. However, it handles an unhappy customer, a dispute or an out-of-scope request poorly, and a wrong answer can cost you a sale. A freelancer takes over those cases, adapts the tone to each customer and can also review and improve your chatbot's canned replies.

Never give your main password: create a staff or user account for them, which both Shopify and Amazon Seller Central allow, with only the permissions needed (orders, customer messages). You can easily remove it at the end of the assignment. The freelancer also processes your customers' data on your behalf: the GDPR requires a written agreement setting out what they can do with it.

Prepare a short document: your delivery times, your return and refund policy, answers to frequent questions, the tone to use (formal or casual) and what they can grant on their own, such as a discount code or reshipping a parcel. Also say when they should hand over to you, for example for a dispute or a major complaint. The clearer the document, the more consistent the answers from one customer to the next.

Check that they know your platform (Shopify, WooCommerce, PrestaShop, Amazon, eBay) and its messaging tools. Of course, pay attention to the quality of their writing from your first exchanges: that's what your customers will read.
